Club Sailing

The sailing season lasts from April to October. Racing is scheduled for both Saturdays and Sundays, and on some weekday evenings, tides permitting. Some members continue to sail recreationally during the winter although January and February are usually too cold.

Racing takes place both in Findhorn Bay and in the Moray Firth and varies in scope from events aimed at beginners right up to national championships. To ensure that there is something for everyone a number of non competitive fun races, musters, picnics, overnight camping expeditions and novelty events are scheduled during the season. Open meetings and travellers events take place from time to time, but the principle events are the club’s Regatta Weekend and Findhorn week. These take place in July. Training sessions are also organised from time to time.

Club members will always welcome and assist visitors and new members, both on and off the water and new members will be ‘mentored’ by an existing member until they find their feet. Those who don’t sail often become involved in the race management and rescue organisations. Full training is available for those who are interested in this side of things. The Club has a small fleet of dinghies which are available for loan to members and a training fleet of newer boats which are used for training courses and can sometimes be hired for racing.
